12 Site Practices
Much of the good work on sustainability issues undertaken during the design stage can be lost during procurement. Most of the issues related to site practice are well beyond the scope of a feasibility study, but quality control is essential if building systems are to work properly, and the foundations can be laid even at the early stages - for example selecting a tender list comprised only of contractors who have demonstrated commitments to:
- More sustainable ways of working
- Sourcing local materials and labour
- Waste minimisation and on-site sorting to allow easy reuse / recycling etc.
Consultants
- Advise on contract type and contractor selection.
- Consider the overall design, material selection and servicing strategy in the context of a practical building project.
- Advise whether a pre-construction audit should be undertaken to identify salvageable components and materials.
